All Sides-- U.S.-focused site that displays "the day's top news stories from the Left, Center, and Right of the political spectrum-- side-by-side so you can see the full picture." Also provides Media Bias Ratings for a large number of American news sources and public intellectuals, allowing you to "easily identify different perspectives so you can get the full picture and think for yourself." Ground News-- "Lets you easily compare how a news story is covered by thousands of sources across the political spectrum and world... You can see visually who's talking about a story and who's completely ignoring it." Spotlights topics trending in various regions of the world. Note the unusual Blindspot feed, highlighting stories that receive virtually no coverage from one side or the other of the political spectrum. Offers a free Ground News Bias Checker browser extension.

Bing News-- Major news search engine that is largely focused on the United States, but with a useful World section.


European Media Monitor Newsbrief-- Major world news aggregator sponsored by European Union agencies: "Novel and unique software that gathers reports from news portals world-wide in 60 languages, classifies the articles, analyses the news texts by extracting information from them, aggregates the information, issues alerts and produces intuitive visual presentations of the information found."


Global Voices-- "An international, volunteer-led project that collects, summarizes, and gives context to some of the best self-published content found on blogs, podcasts, photo sharing sites, and videoblogs from around the world, with a particular emphasis on countries outside of Europe and North America." Note their Advox project that "reports on threats to online speech, shares tactics for defending the work and words of netizens, and supports efforts to improve Internet policy and practice worldwide."


Google News-- Excellent portal draws news from thousands of English-language sources worldwide, using Google full-text search technology for constant real-time updating, allowing users to scan headlines and to search in depth. Has searchable archives. International versions of Google News allow country and language-specific searches.


NewsNow-- London-based news aggregator that constantly updates feeds from thousands of press and newsblog sources, with access by hundreds of topics and subtopics or by keyword search.

Noovell-- Aggregates "English-language news for all countries worldwide from more than 2,000 news sources," by world, by region, or by search, with a "Similar" feature that presents users with "a complete list of similar news stories published by other news sources on a given subject."


Spotlight on Military News and International Affairs-- Daily compendium of links to carefully selected items on security issues in the world press, from the Canadian Forces College.

Start.me International News-- Aggregates headlines and links to current stories from major global news providers.


Watching America-- "Discover What the World Thinks About U.S." with English language translations of foreign press commentary about the United States and its foreign policy, from around the world and with links to the original sources.

•  Al Jazeera-- "International news channel with over sixty bureaus around the world that span six different continents," with headquarters in Doha, Qatar. Recognized for its reporting on less-covered regions and topics. Note the regional and country sections.


•  BBC News Online-- World news from one of the most trusted sources, in print, audio, and video.

•  CNN Interactive--World News-- World news and weather from the Cable News Network, including special editions and several languages for the main world regions in CNN International. A text-only version is available.

•  Canadian Broadcasting Corporation-- News from a prestigious source, with much audio and video available.
A CBC Lite version is available.

•  The Conversation (US edition)-- "Network of nonprofit media outlets publishing news stories and research reports online, with accompanying expert opinion and analysis. •  International Business Times-- Fine source for global business news, with several country-based international editions available, in the respective languages.

•  Inter Press Service-- World news stressing developing countries, from a "global news agency producing independent news and analysis about events and global processes affecting the economic, social and political development of peoples and nations, especially in the [global] South."

•  Le Monde Diplomatique-- World-renown French language newspaper; this link is to the English-language edition, with archives.


  MSN World News-- World news coverage from an American news network, "powered by Microsoft News."

•  New York Times-- Fine international coverage, with compilation of international news and analysis. Site features a free searchable archive of full-text NYT news items since 1981. Signing up for a free account gives you access to columnists, breaking news alerts, and daily alerts about headline news items in topics that you select from many options.
